Dream of home ownership alive and well in Ontario A poll released on May 11, 2011, by the London and St. Thomas Association of REALTORS® (LSTAR) shows that the dream of home ownership is alive and well among Ontario renters, a significant majority of whom – 70% – report that they would like to buy a home in the future.
However, the poll also revealed that 81% of Ontarians believe that owning a home is or will be more difficult for them than it was for their parents, with 89% expressing concern that home ownership will become increasingly difficult over time.
April sales down, but on par with previous years 619 detached homes and 131 condos exchanged hands in April 2011, for a total of 750 transactions. “While last month’s sales were down 26.3% from the previous April, it’s important to remember that April 2010 set an all-time LSTAR record – up 26.5% over April 2009,” comments says Jack Lane, President of the London and St. Thomas Association of REALTORS®.
Cheryl Miller receives the Association’s Quality of Life Award At LSTAR’s 2010 Annual General Meeting REALTOR® Cheryl Miller received the Association’s Quality of Life Award. Miller, a Trustee and former chair of the London Board of Education for 13 years and a City Councilor for 14, has an impressive record of service. Not only did she serve as the Executive Director for Junior Achievement for London and St. Thomas and the Regional Manager for the Arthritis Society of Canada, she has sat on the Boards of the London Economic Development Corporation, the London Convention Centre, MainStreet London, the London Downtown Business Association and the Old East Business Improvement Area and as a Governor of the Western Fair Association.
Rev. Susan Eagle receives LSTAR’s Quality of Life Award The Rev. Susan Eagle was on hand at LSTAR’s 2010 Annual General Meeting to receive the Association’s Quality of Life Award.
Reverend Eagle, a United Church of Canada Minister and four-term London City Councillor, championed the cause of affordable housing in London and was instrumental in making Council both more aware of the dire shortage of affordable housing in London and more responsive.
LSTAR EVP Betty Doré Wins 2010 Outstanding Service Award Executive Vice-President Betty Doré received the Association’s most prestigious award at its 2010 Annual General Meeting, held on April 26, 2011 – the Lyn Coupland Outstanding Service Award, named in honour of LSTAR's Director of Administration Services, who passed away in 2009.

Local REALTORS® celebrate 75th anniversary The 2010 Annual General Meeting of the London and St. Thomas Association of REALTORS®, held on April 26, 2011, in the London Convention Centre, kicked-off the 75th anniversary of organized real estate in Middlesex and Elgin Counties. On hand to celebrate this special occasion were twenty three Past Presidents of the Association, the eldest of whom was three-time President Ronald Richardson (1948, 1949 and 1959)...
